Clean Audit: Lucky Number Eleven for CWDM

The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) is ecstatic to announce that for the 2023/2024 financial year, the Auditor-General has expressed the eleventh consecutive unqualified audit opinion with no findings for the municipality.

The Auditor-General’s scope covers the auditing of financial statements, reporting of performance against predetermined objectives, and compliance with laws and regulations. To obtain a ‘clean audit’, it is required that the financial statements be free of material misstatements and that there are no material findings on reporting on performance objectives or non-compliance with legislation. This 11th consecutive clean audit opinion bears witness to the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s strong financial management, sound internal controls and robust budgeting process.

“We are proud to announce that the Cape Winelands District Municipality has received its 11th consecutive clean audit opinion.  This achievement reflects our commitment to transparency, accountability and sound financial management practices. We will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do and render outstanding services to our citizens. In the words of Dwight Eisenhower, ‘The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity’,” said Executive Mayor of the CWDM, Ald (Dr) Elna von Schlicht.

The CWDM’s Municipal Manager, Henry Prins, who is celebrating a 14th clean audit achieved at two municipalities, stated, “Whether the CWDM is growing a small business through our grant-in-aid programme, supporting an SMME through supply chain, building a sports ground for a rural school, fighting fires, or executing health inspections, the size of the project makes little difference to the process. The audit outcome proves that we adhere to and follow the processes required of us to ensure that funds at our disposal are utilised efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of our citizens as expressed through our IDP. Ultimately, we wish to put actions to our mission of achieving improved service delivery.”

The CWDM has a strong history of supporting businesses and is a trusted partner in fostering business growth and attracting diverse investment opportunities. These efforts drive skills development within our communities and generate employment. This clean audit reaffirms our commitment to responsibly managing public funds for the benefit of the communities we serve.
